Bring your world to life

Step by step instructions

Bring your world to life

Six Simple Steps

Step by step instructions

Bring your world to life

To give everyone a chance to see their own world concepts on screen, Applied Algorithms developed the Auto World Builder, a template driven system that guides Unreal Engine developers from site selection to final foliage placement.

INTRODUCING THE AUTO WORLD BUILDER

Your own world in six easy steps

1. Getting Started

In this lesson you will install the package, set up your development workflow, and learn how to add player characters to the default master world template.

If you prefer you can Download the Video here.

2. Adding World Material Templates

In this lesson, we will take a tour of an Auto World template instance and learn how to configure it to create our own distinct world terrain blends.

If you prefer you can Download the Video here.

3. Creating New World Levels

In this lesson you will learn how to create new game levels, using heightmaps created from real world locations.  The height maps used in this video can be downloaded from here.

If you prefer you can Download the Video here.

4. Creating Your Own Heightmaps

Now you know how to create and add templates to world landscapes, it is time to take a step back and learn how to turn a world location into a game landscape.

If you prefer you can Download the Video here.

5. Adding our Surface Textures

In this lesson we begin painting our first world level.  Using the amazing range of Quixel Bridge surface textures; learn to quickly swap out the template textures and transform your landscapes.  A list of assets used in all our game levels can be found here.

If you prefer you can Download the Video here.

6. Practicing Surface Textures

Using what we have learnt to complete the Everest, Highlands and Stokknes maps.   A list of assets used in all our game levels can be found here.

If you prefer you can Download the Video here.

7. Adding the Foliage

In this lesson we start to finish our world with plants, rocks and debris.

Learning to use the material templates grass node, you will begin to add non-collidable foliage to your world landscapes.

If you prefer you can Download the Video here.

9. Adding Procedural Foliage Volumes

In this lesson we complete our world build by creating some procedural foliage volumes , and using them to define our collidable foliage.
